About Webcom

For more than 30 years, Webcom has been a forward-thinking book printer offering innovative programs to address the challenges of high inventory and production costs, customized for publishers of books, catalogs and directories across North America. Programs are integrated through advanced workflow technology and automation of leading-edge inkjet web press, conventional offset presses and the latest bindery systems. As an award-winning leader in the area of environmental responsible production, Webcom has strict policies in place to reduce the impact of paper usage, emissions and energy consumption.

Webcom Milestones

In 1961, Warren Wilkins and Bob Chittick became partners of Web Offset Publications with the purchase of the first Goss Suburban coldset web press in Canada to print newspapers. Webcom was created as a subsidiary to print books that was spun-off in the mid '70s when Wilkins took full ownership and continued to build the company into one of the top book printers in Canada and marking many technological firsts in the North American printing industry.
  • 2010 - launch of BookFWD™ production program that introduces publishers to cost savings at all stages of the production cycle and transforming the way publishers print and manage the distribution of books. BookFWD™ leverages a $12 million investment in the HP T300 Color Inkjet Web Press for printing text pages, the HP Indigo 700 for producing covers, the Magnum FlexBook system, the latest workflow technology and two new top-of-the-line binders.
  • Warren Wilkins stepped down as Chairman of Webcom in 2006, passing the title of President and CEO to Mike Collinge. Independent ownership was later transferred in 2008 to a private investor.
  • 2006 - completed full integration of automated production management system to streamline all processes and optimize efficiency and reduce delivery times, receiving national recognition at the Canadian Information Productivity Awards
  • 2000 - first book specialist in Canada to install Digital Print Technologies
  • 1996 - first printer in Canada to install a Computer-To-Plate system
  • 1988 - installed the first lay-flat Otabind™ in North America
  • 1982 - First in North America to offer UV coatings for book covers
  • 1971 - fifth printer in the world to use Opti-copy camera for computerized imposition of film
